The adjunct Computer Foundations Instructor will join the growing Baltimore team of Byte Back – a dynamic nonprofit providing innovative training that has earned national attention and support. Byte Back is one of the only organizations in the country providing a pathway of training for adults at all levels, from foundation computer classes to industry-recognized tech certification courses.

The adjunct Computer Foundations Instructor will be responsible for instructing Computer Foundations 1 and Computer Foundations 2 courses. The Computer Foundations 1 course is a 4-week introductory course that teaches students how to identify and use a PC. Computer Foundations 2 is a 6-8 week intermediate course that introduces students to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). The Computer Foundations Instructor will work collaboratively within the Education department and report directly to the Education Manager.

The Washington, DC-based nonprofit serves more than 500 adults per year, who are predominantly people of color, women, and unemployed or underemployed adults. They have an incredible, untapped potential to enter living-wage careers and change the tech sector. Byte Back’s innovative approach was recognized with two WeWork Creator Awards. In 2019, Byte Back is expanding to Baltimore and exploring national expansion, thanks to a $775,000 TD Ready Challenge award.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach classes and workshops in computer and internet fundamentals, including email and Microsoft Office
  • Track student progress, attendance, and needs in Salesforce
  • Provide a safe and orderly learning environment in the classroom
  • Provide referrals to students in need of additional training or tutoring to Byte Back’s tutoring program
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of additional computer training curricula and computer foundations courses based on the instructor’s expertise and goals
  • Utilize teaching strategies that help adult learners actively engage in the learning process
  • Assist in the maintenance of IT equipment for training and other tools used in the delivery of training

 

Qualifications

  • Fundamental understanding of computers and confidence in using PCs
  • Feel confident in navigating basic functions of computers, including the internet, communication tools, media, data, and digital manipulation
  • Ability to manage and instruct a classroom of 10-15 adult learners
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • AA or BA in relevant field
  • Expert level understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience teaching individuals in the Baltimore area
  • Experience using CRMs (Salesforce)

 

Employment Type
Adjunct (Temporary), up to 20 hours per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday for 3 months
